We usually reply within two working days. Please include your device, macOS or iOS version and KeyBuddy version (Settings, bottom of the page). Never send us a real key or password; a description or a masked value like sk-…mnop is all we need.
Getting started
How do I save my first key?
Mac: copy the key, then press ⌥ ⌘ K anywhere, or click + in the vault. KeyBuddy detects the provider, suggests a name and env var, and clears the clipboard after saving.
iPhone and iPad: copy the key, open KeyBuddy and tap Paste on the “Just copied a key?” card. You can also add the Quick save key shortcut to the Action button, or build a Shortcut: “Get Clipboard → Quick save key”.
How do I set up kb for Claude Code, Codex or Cursor?
Open Agent in KeyBuddy for Mac and click Copy kb install command, then paste it in Terminal. Run kb ls to check it works.
Then click Copy instructions and paste them into your project’s CLAUDE.md or AGENTS.md. They contain only variable names. Your agent will run commands like kb run OPENAI_API_KEY -- npm run dev, and you approve each request with Touch ID.
kb says “KeyBuddy isn’t open” or can’t connect.
KeyBuddy must be running (it can live in the menu bar), and the agent bridge must be on in Agent → kb bridge. The command talks to the app through a socket in KeyBuddy’s container, so it only works for the same macOS user that runs the app.
I don’t want to approve every single time.
In Agent → Remember approval for, choose 5, 15 or 60 minutes. Choose Every time for the strictest setting, or Forget all to reset approvals immediately.

Why does KeyBuddy ask for my Home folder?
macOS apps from the App Store are sandboxed and can’t see your files unless you pick them. AI tools keep their chat histories in your Home folder (~/.claude, ~/.codex and so on), so KeyBuddy asks you to choose it once. Everything it reads stays on your Mac. You can revoke access in Settings.
A key was found. What now?
Tap Rotate. KeyBuddy opens the provider’s key page; create a new key there and copy it. KeyBuddy picks it up from the clipboard automatically. Then revoke the old key at the provider: changing it only in KeyBuddy leaves the leaked key working.
Optionally use Clean up to move old transcripts that still contain the key to the Trash.
It flagged something that isn’t a real key.
Dismiss the finding and it won’t come back for that value. If a pattern misfires often, email us a description (not the value) and we’ll tune it.
Sync, security & devices
My keys don’t show up on my iPhone.
Check that both devices are signed in to the same Apple ID, that iCloud is on in KeyBuddy’s Settings on both, and that iCloud Keychain is enabled (System Settings or Settings → your name → iCloud → Passwords and Keychain). The encryption key travels through iCloud Keychain; without it the other device can’t decrypt the vault. Give it a minute after first launch.
Can I use KeyBuddy without iCloud?
Yes. Turn iCloud off in Settings and the vault stays on that device only.
I forgot my device passcode / lost Face ID.
KeyBuddy uses your device’s own Face ID, Touch ID or passcode. If you can unlock the device, you can unlock KeyBuddy. We cannot unlock or recover a vault for you, because we never have it.
How do I install the browser extension?
Open Settings → Browser extension in KeyBuddy for Mac and follow the steps, then click the KeyBuddy icon in a password field, choose Connect and click Allow in the app. The extension only talks to KeyBuddy on your Mac.
